Afua Asantewaa’s Sing-a-thon: All You Need To Know

Afua Asantewaa, a Ghanaian singer and CEO of Askof Productions Limited, is set to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.

She has announced that she will host a four-day event at the Akwaaba Village near the Airport Roundabout, where she will sing about 2,300 Ghanaian songs for more than 117 hours.

Afua’s mission is to promote Ghanaian music and culture to the world, as well as to showcase the diversity of genres such as gospel, highlife, and hiplife. She has cited Hilda Baci’s cook-a-thon in 2019 as her inspiration.

She has also received support from various individuals and organizations, such as Sonotech Medical and Diagnostic Centre, which will provide medical assistance to her during the event and Freeman Ame Daniel, a popular voice coach who will train her vocal skills.

Afua has also submitted the list of songs she will be performing to the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO), in order to ensure that artistes and copyright holders are duly recognised and compensated for their work.

However, this decision sparked some controversy on social media, as some people accused GHAMRO of trying to stop Afua’s sing-a-thon competition.

The Chairman of GHAMRO, Rex Omar, later apologized for posting confidential documents about Afua’s event on Facebook.

Afua has also pleaded with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) not to take away power from her during her sing-a-thon. She said that she needs constant electricity to run her sound system and other equipment. She asked ECG to hold the power for her from December 24th to January 2nd.

Afua’s sing-a-thon is expected to attract thousands of spectators who will come to witness this historic event. The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has officially partnered with Afua for this purpose.

The GTA said that it has moved the venue from the Aviation Social Centre to Akwaaba Village in order to accommodate the huge numbers of people who have expressed interest in attending. The GTA also said that it will provide security and logistics support for Afua and her team.

Afua Asantewaa is a talented singer who has been making waves in the music industry with her unique style and voice. She is also a passionate advocate for Ghanaian culture and heritage.

Her sing-a-thon is not only a personal challenge but also a social responsibility. She hopes that by breaking this record, she will inspire more people to appreciate and support Ghanaian music.
