Nate Bennett is an 18-year-old super weird and quiet nerd, a middle-class kid, and Megan’s tutor. They always fight during lessons.

MEGAN’S POV

My stomach starts to growl as we’re stuck in the middle of the cafeteria and about to be exposed.

“Shhhh.” my mom cuts the girl off, holds my shoulder, and we move backwards slowly. We immediately run out of the cafeteria and hide in a nearby janitor’s closet. Then, we begin to glow brightly as we breathe heavily from running.

“Phew! That was a close one,” my mom pants heavily.

“No kidding,” I reply.

A few minutes later, our skin goes back to normal, and we leave the closet and go back to the empty class.

I check the timetable, and I should be ready for chemistry and art class.

“I wish I could be in art class instead,” I complain to my mom.

“Because science class is for brilliant and intelligent people,” my mom replies.

“What about the art class?” I ask.

Mom shrugs. “Art class is for people like… you don’t want to be those people,” she giggles.

I roll my eyes as I walk out of the class and go to my new locker to take my chemistry textbook. I close the locker and accidentally bump into someone, causing my book to fall.

MEGAN’S POV
Chemistry class
Nate looked at me with concern. “Are you sure you’re okay? You look a little shaken.”

I took a deep breath and tried to compose myself. “I’m okay. Thanks to you.”

Nate smiled softly. “No problem. I’m always here to protect you.”

I felt my cheeks heat up and quickly looked away. I couldn’t believe how he always managed to make me feel so flustered.

As we walked out of the restroom, I realized that Nate had been carrying my chemistry textbook the whole time. I blushed even more and tried to take it from him, but he held onto it.

“Let me carry it for you,” he said, smiling.

I smiled back gratefully. “Thanks, Nate.”

We walked to our next class together, chatting about random things to ease the tension. It felt good to have someone like Nate around – someone who didn’t judge me for being different, someone who was always there to support me.

As we entered the classroom, the teacher handed out a group assignment. We were supposed to form groups of four and work on a project about a famous scientist.

Gina and her friends immediately paired up, leaving me and Nate without partners.

“Looks like we’re going to be partners, huh?” Nate said, grinning.

I nodded, feeling relieved that I didn’t have to work with Gina or Tony.
